C3.ai is a software suite for digital enterprise transformation. C3 delivers a comprehensive platform as a service (PaaS) for rapidly developing and operating big data, artificial intelligence, and IoT software as a service (SaaS) applications. C3 also offers a family of configurable and extensible SaaS products developed with and operating on its PaaS. It has achieved strategic partnerships with Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, and Amazon, among many others.
The core of the C3 AI Suite is a revolutionary, extensible, model-driven abstraction layer that dramatically enhances data scientist and application developer productivity while future-proofing applications against underlying IT evolution. The C3 AI Suite supports any enterprise value chain in any industry with configurable, pre-built, high-value AI applications.
In 2009, three years after selling Siebel Systems to Oracle for $5.85 billion, Thomas Siebel launched C3. Initial idea was to help companies reduce their carbon footprints, hence the name C3 where "C" is for carbon and "3" is for three “M” words: measure, mitigate and monetise.
In 2012, the company renamed itself C3 Energy and helped grid operators aggregate and analyse data from various sensor devices and enterprise software systems. In 2016, C3 Energy renamed itself C3 IoT and began delivering cloud computing, data analytics, and machine learning applications to other industries. In 2017, C3 IoT became a “unicorn”, valued at more than $1 billion, and in June 2019, the company changed its name to C3.ai, Inc.
Its mission is to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve greater technological advancement to benefit the humanity.
The company aims to create comprehensive services and solutions that are efficient and cost-effective than alternative approaches. The enterprise-scale AI applications offered by the company can support the value chain across all industries. They provide pre-built, configurable, and high-value applications for various purposes like fraud detection, establishing reliability, sensoring network health, optimising supply network, energy management, and customer engagement.
