Startupbootcamp is a network of startup accelerators based in London, United Kingdom. The network supports early-stage tech founders to help them scale their companies by providing direct access to an international network of relevant mentors, partners, and investors in their industry.
Founded in 2010, Startupbootcamp now operates globally with 20+ industry-focused programs in key locations including San Francisco, Amsterdam, Cape Town, Chengdu, Berlin, Dubai, Hartford, Istanbul, Rome, London, Melbourne, Miami, Mumbai, Mexico City, New York, and Singapore. The co-founders are Alex Farcet, Carsten Kolbeck, Patrick de Zeeuw, and Ruud Hendriks.
Since it was set up, Startupbootcamp has accelerated over 800 startups of which 78% went on to receive funding. The network has attracted and/or provided more than €650 million in funding and created 3,500+ jobs.
The first programme was officially launched by Alex Farcet in Copenhagen in 2010. With deep European roots, soon other entrepreneurs joined the Startupbootcamp movement to expand their mission across Europe, Asia and Americas.
In 2012, Startupbootcamp expanded to Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid and Dublin. In 2013 it added Tel Aviv in Israel and Eindhoven. In 2014 it opened an accelerator programme in London and Istanbul. In 2016 it opened an accelerator programme in Rome. In 2017 they launched 6 new program, expanding from Europe to Asia, Africa, USA, Latin America and Australia. Startupbootcamp now has more industry-focused accelerator programs than any other organization.
With programs in major startup hubs including London, New York, Singapore, Berlin, Amsterdam, and many others, Startupbootcamp provides both a global reach and industry-focus to their portfolio companies. They do so mainly by holding events in more than 100 cities each year. Through these events they support the world’s most talented founders with hands-on mentorship and access to key industry connections, as well as take part in all the major technology and industry conferences around the globe.
Each Startupbootcamp accelerator programme selects 10 startups from more than 500 global applicants to receive mentorship from 150 entrepreneurs, investors and partners, €15,000 for living expenses, free co-working space and over €450,000 worth of partner deals. In return, Startupbootcamp takes a 6-8% equity stake.
Programmes are primarily mentorship-driven. The volunteering mentors drive the startup acceleration over three months and often for months or years afterwards. Most of the volunteering mentors drop off however, so that there is a high turnover of mentors. This gives startups direct access to an international network of relevant partners, investors and mentors in their industry. The main partners of Startupbootcamp are Amazon, Intel, Schiphol, Rabobank, Allianz, Vodafone, Airbus, Cisco, Google, Thomson Reuters, Mastercard, Deutsche Bank, which all act as mentors and pilot customers.
