History

Stanford Graduate School of Business has established itself as a global leader in management education by building a reputation of excellent education given by influential, innovative business leaders.  Located in California, the business school is focused on producing innovative ideas in response to the quickly changing future. Their mission is to: “Create ideas that deepen and advance the understanding of management and with those ideas to develop innovative, principled, and insightful leaders who change the world.” Stanford seeks out faculty and students striving to engage academically in a research-supported learning environment while maintaining responsibility for their own learning process and community involvement.  The most recent programs developed in response to the dot com era are the Center for Social Innovation, the Center for Global Business and the Economy, and the Center for Leadership Development and Research. The school also focuses on creating an atmosphere of networking for the students through events and student groups.  The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies hosts and co-hosts events on a regular basis to help students network and engage themselves with alumni and others.  The Conference of Entrepreneurship brings a group of 24 entrepreneurship-related campus groups together.  The Nuts & Bolts Entrepreneurship Series offers a workshop covering the basics in starting a company from entrepreneurs and investors, and the series is offered every month. The Knight Management Center is the home of the business school consisting of eight buildings designed to meet all needs for a diverse, instructional, technologically advanced environment. Stanford also offers many centers, institutes, and research programs providing further services for each unique students needs, such as the Center for Leadership Development and Research or the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies.


Courses

The Full-time MBA Program is a two-year curriculum provides a personalized schedule of classes directed towards the students focus. Small group activities, diverse teaching methods, global experiences, and a team of advisors help guide students through the educational process. Students are also given the option to attend seminars that focus on the different areas of expertise in their fields. The first semester concentrates on general management perspectives, a series of courses designed to teach students about the experiences of a veteran manager or leader.  The second semester lets students choose the courses from a list of general management foundation courses.  Students are also required to choose one of the several global experience courses to broaden their international business skills. During the second year, students may choose up to 18 different electives.  During the final semester, students take a series of 1-2 week seminars while working with a faculty member receiving a completely personalized educational experience.  Career development is also emphasized during this time, as it helps to ease the transition from education to pursuing a career in their chosen field. The Stanford Master of Science in Management for Experienced Leaders (Stanford MXs) is a one year, full-time program for executives in the midst of their career that prepares them for senior global-executive roles.  Stanford MSx provides an educational experience that progresses executives skills in management and leadership in order to move forward in their careers. Students work closely will faculty members, MBA students, and peers as they collaborate and take part in discussion during the program.  All of the seven schools of Stanford Business are incorporated into the curriculum which consists of required and elective classes.  The course also offers study trips to the Pacific Northwest, Washington D.C., and New York City. GSB offers an extensive Executive Education Program in eleven different areas covering management, finance, innovation, and leadership. The program offers the world-class faculty of GSB and opportunities to build relationships and collaborate with peers in different fields.  The eleven different topics programs are offered in include:
