Business School Motto: Ask More of Business

History

The Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame challenges students to “ask more of business” as they develop talents and prepare to make an impact on the world by creating value-added solutions for their companies and communities. The business school wants students to become leaders who make the future better together through the positions they hold, the decisions they make, and the resources they create.

The business school is home to more than 2,400 students. The business education programme was developed in 1917 with the goal to make an impact on the global business world. Mendoza College of Business was developed with a mission to “build a premier Catholic business school that fosters academic excellence, professional effectiveness and personal accountability in a context that strives to be faithful to the ideals of community, human development, and individual integrity.” Mendoza provides a learning environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and discussions and fosters innovation, creation, and collaboration.

In some of the facilities, the walls are movable and they are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to make collaborative learning between peers and faculty easier and more accessible.

Courses

The Notre Dame MBA is offered in a one-year and two-year format and is designed for students with an undergraduate degree who have familiarity with basic accounting methods and quantitative material. During the programme, students analyse, investigate and solve real-life problems presented by executives from large organisations and Notre Dame faculty members. The curriculum provides a mix of core concepts in all the functional areas of business and a series of engagements with world leaders through global immersions in Asia, Latin America, and many other locations. Classes are spread over four semesters and 64 credit hours. Students can take concentration tracks in the areas of:

  • Business Analytics
  • Business Leadership
  • Consulting
  • Corporate Accounting
  • Corporate Finance
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Investments
  • Marketing

Each semester consists of two seven-week modules and students enroll in additional short courses that are aligned with their particular focus. Below is a diagram of the two-year, full-time MBA programme, provided by Mendoza.

The Executive MBA Programme is offered on Notre Dame’s main campus and in Chicago at their common centre downtown. The main campus programme is 21 months long and the Chicago programme is 17 months long. The Notre Dame programme occurs Thursday through Saturday, once a month, and is based on a logical progression of integrated content over four semesters. The curriculum is designed to teach executives leadership capacities and to think beyond the functional boundaries and engage organisational challenges at the core of the firm.

Three immersion weeks are weaved into the curriculum, including a one-week Executive Leadership Programme.  Also, a week long international project-based immersion that has students interact with global leaders is included. Throughout the programme, the themes of sustainability, strategic growth, development of real innovation, and management of change are addressed. Below is a diagram of the courses covered during the 21-month curriculum, provided by Mendoza.
