UBS is one of the world's largest and most acclaimed financial services company, with its roots tracing back to 1854. The company started as the Union Bank of Switzerland, founded by a group of private banks in Basel. As the bank grew and diversified, it changed its name in 1912 to the Swiss Bank Corporation, reflecting the expansion beyond its local boundaries. In 1997, a merger between the Union Bank of Switzerland and the Swiss Bank Corporation created the UBS Group. The new company became the largest wealth manager in Switzerland, with a substantial presence in Europe and throughout the world. Since then, UBS has made several acquisitions, including O'Connor & Associates in 1998, PaineWebber in 2000, and U.S. investment bank Dillon Read & Co. in 2001. In 2008, UBS acquired the British bank, SG Warburg, as well as Lehman Brothers' asset management business. UBS has been a leader in cutting-edge technology and services, as demonstrated by its digital banking platform, which was developed in 2000 and launched in 2003. The platform, which was continually upgraded and improved, has become the basis for many of the company’s services. In 2013, UBS became the world’s largest wealth manager and one of the first banks to offer private banking services on a mobile platform. Recognizing the critical importance of digital innovation, the company has continued to develop its platforms and services, providing clients with sophisticated digital solutions. As of 2020, UBS serves more than 60 million clients in over 50 countries and employs approximately 62,000 people around the world.
UBS sets out to help its clients achieve financial well-being and safely navigate the world of money. It aims to do this by combining a values-driven culture and innovative solutions, creating long-term value for its stakeholders.
