Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business – Beijing, China

Generating insights in Chinese business through research and excellence.

History

Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) was established in Beijing in November of 2002.  It is a private, non-profit, independent educational institution that has campuses in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen and offices in Hong Kong, London, and New York.  Their faculty is research-driven and constantly generating insights in important areas of Chinese business, such as globalization strategies and competition and collaboration among state-owned enterprises.

The main CKGSB campus is located in Beijing and is the only one that offers the MBA program.  The Executive MBA program is offered at all three locations.  The three cities have a distinct culture, history, and climate that give students a business environment to grow within. CKGSB’s greatest strength is its faculty, composed of world-class academics coming from Wharton School of Business, Stanford, New York University, and Yale.  The research performed by the faculty and published in top academic journals rates in the top 20 business schools globally.  Many of the faculty members were raised in China, giving them a bi-cultural perspective that helps them relate to Western students and educated them on the Chinese economy.  The specialties of the faculty include:

  • Accounting
  • Humanities
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Operations

The CKGSB Knowledge center is a sharing platform that provides a unique vantage point on the latest emerging markets that are impacting global business.  The program delivers business and economic analysis directly from the school through articles, analysis and interviews with academics, senior executives, decision-makers and thought leaders. The business school’s Case Center has a collection of over 200 different case studies that the faculty use as teaching materials to generate debate within the classroom.  They have been developing strategy cases since 2003 that address how companies should go global, how multinational corporations can win out China, and how small businesses can utilize succession planning.  The topics covered include:

  • Government
  • Business Interaction
  • Human Resources in China
  • Analysis of Innovative Practices

CKGSB is one of the leaders in global research and has five specialized research centers.  The centers specialize in the areas of:

  • Customer Information Management
  • Financial Research
  • Multinational Corporations Research
  • Real Estate Research
  • Responsible Business

Courses

The Full-time MBA Program is a 14-month, English language program that includes mentoring opportunities with Executive MBA students creating a valuable networking opportunity for both students.  The program also has a dedicated career development service that includes networking events with leading multinational corporations and top Chinese firms.   The Executive MBA Program was established in 2002 and is the business school’s flagship program.  It is a two-year, part-time Chinese-language program that was noted in Forbes in 2011 for the best return on investment among China-based  EMBA programs. The program has 4,000 alumni and over the entire history of the program, 76% of graduates hold core management positions at the Vice-President level or above in China.  The program incorporates sick days of community service with global insights, networks and humanities to give participants an idea of why they do business rather then how to do business. CKGSB’s Executive Education Program is an open-enrollment program that offers customized executive education addressing these three questions:

  • What is the interplay between the Chinese state and it’s flourishing private sector?
  • How globalization in Chinese companies affect established firms around the world?
  • Why do foreign firms need to localize for the Chinese Market and how can they effectively do so?

The open-enrollment programs are offered in English and are in the form of lectures, presentations, forums, a one-week intensive China overview course, or many others.
